Senior Data Architect

Voloridge Investment Management’s Quantitative systems are deeply dependent on vast quantities of data. The Senior Data Architect must understand the many different and evolving use cases for data at Voloridge and design systems that supply highly performant data sets for advanced analytics and will provide leadership and experience in the data architecture space. 

Summary of Job Functions 

  • Be a thought leader in driving Data Architecture initiatives
  • Specify the overall Data Architecture for strategy data needs, including frameworks, modeling, vendor data ingress, pipeline data flows, master data management, data warehousing and data exports
  • Consistently demonstrate initiative, collaboration, accountability, impartiality and communication
  • Collaborate effectively with Stakeholders, Project Managers, Software Engineers, Data Engineers, Data Analysts, QA Analysts, DBAs and other Data Architects
  • Translate functional and non-functional requirements into data architecture specifications
  • Explain Data Architecture concepts to non-technical people, express the value-add propositions in business terms and build appreciation for the Data Architecture evolution
  • Analyze complex data problems and design elegant frameworks which are cohesive, performant, secure, scalable, extensible, maintainable and not overly architected
  • Produce and maintain architectural documentation
  • Lead Data Architecture standards evolution
  • Re-architect existing data warehouses and pipelines as they become obsolete
  • Stay abreast of existing and emerging data technologies, understand their strengths and weaknesses, and incorporate them into Data Architecture frameworks where appropriate
  • Work in an Agile environment

Minimum Requirements

  • 15+ years’ experience designing data architecture frameworks and building transactional databases, data warehouses and master data repositories for large data volumes
  • Strong analytical skills, real passion for working with data and strong interest in solving data problems
  • Strong track record for judging core requirements and meeting delivery dates
  • Strong knowledge of relational data normalization, dimensional design methodologies, master data management techniques and value add use cases of each
  • Experience with advanced SQL Server features such as table and index partitioning, column store indexes, memory optimized tables, row level security, machine learning services and polybase
  • Experience with SQL Server 2017+
  • Experience producing and maintaining architectural documentation such as Entity Relationship Diagrams and Data Dictionaries
  • Experience designing cohesive data pipelines with instrumentation, fault tolerance and enterprise workflow integration in mind
  • Experience re-architecting core data warehouses involving many upstream and downstream dependencies
  • Experience working on an Agile team using Kanban
  • Experience working within segregated development, QA, UAT and production SDLC stages
  • Experience owning mission critical data architectures
  • BS in Information Systems or comparable discipline
  • Able to work daily onsite in our Jupiter, FL office

Preferred Skills and Previous Experience

  • Experience with Big Data, MPP, noSQL and SQL databases such as Cassandra, MongoDB, Matrix/Paracel, Vertica, Netezza, PDW, Greenplum, RedShift
  • Python programming using libraries such as Pandas, Numpy, csv, TraceBack, JSON, PyODBC, Math
  • Experience writing C# / .Net
  • Experience with AWS
  • Experience working with trading / financial / investment / accounting data
  • Understanding of data architecture frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK, Zachman and TOGAF.
  • Membership in Enterprise Data Architecture organizations such as DAMA, ICCP and TDWI
  • MS/PhD in Information Systems or comparable discipline
